Updated: Jul 2, 2020

When it comes to taking good care of yourself, healthy eating is an essential part of this journey. Especially, during summer BBQ where food is the centrepiece of the party.

I understand that this beautiful weather surrounded by friends and family can cause you to go a bit overboard. But part of loving yourself is to love your body. If you love yourself, you wouldn't feed your body with anything harmful. So, here are some tips on how you can make this summer BBQ party plant-based and enjoyable for you.

1. Invite more veggies to the party and Kebab it.

You know veggies love BBQ too and it tastes delicious. So, invite more veggies to your summer BBQ and start building a more balanced plate. Fill half of your plate with non-starchy vegetables (peppers, cucumber, spinach, onion, etc) and salad. Even better, consider making a delicious and nutritious kebab with the veggies. This helps even helps with reducing the grilling time. In the other half of your plate, fill them in with starchy vegetables such as potato salad, pasta salad. Shortly, you can make fix your plate with potato salad or macaroni salad, veggie kebabs with some meat substitute.

2. Choose Whole-grain buns

If you decide to eat hamburgers, use whole-grain instead of white bread. White bread has surplus calories and provides no nutrient or benefit to your body, whereas whole-grain bread contains vitamin B, minerals, and fibre.

3. Make your own marinade

The bottled marinade is full of sugar, sodium, and calories. Consider making your own marinade. Perhaps a jerk marinade? Take a look here for more jerk marinade. Making your own marinade can be tastier and is healthier.

4. Avoid processed meat

Processed meat such as Hot dogs, sausages, bacon. Cooking it on a high temperature on a BBQ can produce dangerous chemical compounds. These compounds can cause cancer. So, no matter what stage you are in your plant-based journey, ,even if you now try to reduce some food items, try to avoid these processed meat.Learn More about CANCER CAUSING processed food.

5. Ever consider meat substitutes?

As a new plant-based eater I do understand that you consider eating all the vegan meat substitute. Although they are considered "processed meat", it's a great way to start this plant-based journey without feeling left out. Brands like Beyond Meat has made it easier for meat eaters to find this as a substitute. Meat substitute is better for the environment and very attractive choice for a beginner plant-based eater. So instead of hamburger, try out a plant-based Beyond Burger instead.

Well, then try eating meat replace. Now, vegan replacement meats are processed food which is why I don't recommend eating often. But this can help you transition into a more whole food plant-based lifestyle.

Key Takeaway

● Eat More Veggies: Make sure that there are more veggies on your plate than anything else. ● Try meat substitute: It’s the easiest way for meat-eaters to start reducing their intake.

● Avoid Processed meat at all costs (hot dogs, sausages, bacon, etc...)

Finally, plant-based eating is part of self-love. If you love yourself, you wouldn’t feed yourself with anything that harms you. So, if you ever wonder how you can love yourself, start by paying attention to what you are feeding yourself.

Enjoy
